Transforming Gumtree’s Heritage Warehouse into a Dynamic Workspace
Concept was tasked with transforming a heritage overlaid warehouse building into a modern, open-plan workspace for Gumtree, a dynamic and innovative online classifieds advertising platform. The goal was to create a multifunctional central space that could be used for collaboration, large-scale company meetings, and events. Additionally, the project aimed to enhance the client journey by making the thoroughfare to the boardroom more inviting and upgrading the existing boardroom.
Client Objectives
Gumtree’s primary objective was to encourage employees to return to a dynamic and creative workspace that fosters collaboration and innovation. The design needed to be fun, sophisticated, and aligned with Gumtree’s brand identity, incorporating their signature colours of green, orange, and purple.
Key Project Essentials for Gumtree’s Office Design
- Smaller Waiting Area: To maximise the central space for collaboration.
- Arena/Grandstand Space: Designed for company meetings and casual breakout sessions.
- Increased Meeting Spaces: Custom booths and corner spaces were introduced to enhance the availability of meeting areas.
- Storage Solutions: Additional lockers and storage spaces were integrated into the design.
- Acoustic Considerations: Meeting spaces were designed with acoustic wall panels to improve sound quality.
- Boardroom Upgrade: A separate budget was allocated for this, with the design reflecting a higher level of sophistication.
Design Inspiration
The design was bespoke, heavily inspired by Gumtree’s brand colours. The approach was to create a workspace that was both fun and sophisticated, tailored to the specific needs of the client. The design elements were intended to energise the space while maintaining a professional atmosphere.
Key Materials:
- Purple Carpet: Used to create a clear pathway from the entrance to the boardroom, adding a visual cue that ties the space together.
- Acoustic Wall Panels: Installed in meeting rooms to reduce reverberation and improve sound quality.
Custom Design Highlights in Gumtree’s New Workspace
- Custom Grandstand Joinery: This multifunctional feature serves as both seating and storage, enhancing the flexibility of the space.
- Custom Partition Screen: Allows natural light to flow into the arena while dividing the space.
