Creating a Culinary Hub: How Concept Transformed Comcater’s New Workspace

At Concept, we’re passionate about designing workspaces that do more than just meet functional needs—they transform businesses. One of our recent projects with Comcater, a leader in premium kitchen and cooking equipment, exemplifies this mission. Moving from Melbourne’s outer west to a modern space in Port Melbourne, Comcater needed a workspace that reflected their brand’s innovative spirit and supported their growing team’s collaborative needs. Here’s how we helped them achieve that vision.

The Vision: A Space That Does It All

Comcater’s brief was clear—they wanted a workspace that would serve multiple purposes. On the ground floor, they envisioned an immersive experience center where they could showcase their cutting-edge kitchen equipment, provide hands-on demonstrations, and host educational sessions. The first floor would need to function as a dynamic office space that encouraged collaboration while embodying their brand identity.

Bringing the Experience Centre to Life

an interactive experience centre—a true reflection of their commitment to innovation in the kitchen.

The ground floor of Comcater’s new space at 191 Salmon Street was designed as an interactive experience centre—a true reflection of their commitment to innovation in the kitchen. Here’s what we created:

Showroom:

The heart of the ground floor is a sleek showroom that displays Comcater’s latest products. It’s a space where visitors can see, touch, and learn about the premium kitchen equipment that sets Comcater apart from the competition.

Commercial Cooking Area:

To bring their products to life, we included a fully operational commercial kitchen. This space allows chefs to demonstrate the latest cooking techniques using Comcater’s equipment, providing clients with a hands-on understanding of how to maximise their kitchen’s efficiency.

Event Flexibility:

We integrated folding doors into the design, allowing the showroom and kitchen to expand into a larger event space when needed. This flexibility means Comcater can host events of varying sizes.

Reception and Meeting Rooms:

The ground floor also houses a welcoming reception area, along with meeting rooms and offices that are perfect for client consultations and team discussions.

Designing a Collaborative Office Space

The first floor was designed with Comcater’s team in mind, focusing on creating a space that encourages collaboration, creativity, and community

The first floor was designed with Comcater’s team in mind, focusing on creating a space that encourages collaboration, creativity, and community:

Tea Station:

At the centre of the office, we placed a tea station—a communal area designed to bring people together. Whether it’s over a cup of coffee or a quick game of table tennis, this space fosters cross-functional interaction and strengthens team bonds.

Workstations and Executive Offices:

The open-plan layout includes modern workstations and executive offices, providing a comfortable and productive environment for everyone.

Light-Drenched Boardroom:

A large, light-filled boardroom serves as the perfect space for strategic discussions and larger meetings.

Stand-Up Ideation Area:

This area is ideal for brainstorming sessions, supporting the creative thinking that’s essential to Comcater’s business.

Premium Kitchen Area:

Of course, a company like Comcater knows kitchens better than anyone. We designed a spacious kitchen equipped with top-of-the-line appliances, ensuring the team has the best space for both meal prep and informal gatherings.

A Design That Reflects the Brand

Throughout the design process, we made sure the space would visually resonate with Comcater’s brand. We used Comcater Blue as the primary wall colour, complemented by shades of green and highlighted with brass light fixtures. These design choices not only tie the space together but also create an environment that’s both professional and inviting.

The Result: A Workspace That Drives Success

Comcater’s new workspace has become a vibrant hub for their operations. The experience centre has enhanced their ability to showcase products and host events, while the thoughtfully designed office space fosters a strong sense of community and innovation among the team.
